The Leaves of the White oak are hairless, bright green above and whitish below and mature at 4 to 7 inches long. The Flowers of the Male Oak are green, borne in naked catkins, 2 to 4 inches long. The Female flowers are reddish and single spiked and appear with the leaves.The White oak is a large tree when grown out in the open, these oaks have rugged, irregular crowns that are very wide spreading. The White Oak is the state tree for Connecticut and Illinois. Connecticut celebrates Arbor Day April 30th.
