The leaves of the Palmetto are fan shaped and very long. They can reach up from 4 to 6 feet ! The leaves appear directly out of their unbranched trunk. Although they look it, the edges are not sharp. They are a beautiful shade of green and the overall leaf is nearly round and several feet long. In early summer small white flowers appear in branched clusters. They also bear a small, showy shiny blue fruit that matures in the early fall and stays until winter.The Cabbage palmetto can grow up to 80 feet tall. The Cabbage Palmetto is the state tree for Florida and South Carolina. Florida celebrates Arbor day the third Friday in January.
