‘Fagaceae Quercus virginiana’
The Live Oak is a medium-sized tree that can grow to massive proportions !
Trees that are grown in open areas develope a huge rounded crown. The largest crowns can be as much as 150 feet across. Acorns form in clusters of between 3 to 5 around September every year. The acorn of the Oak is one of the absolute favorite foods of the squirrel as well as many woodland animals. The leaves are some of the easiest to recognize, growing from between 2 to 5 inches long.
A long time favorite of many because the Oak symbolizes strength. Georgia celebrates Arbor day the third Friday in January.
