The Red Maple is a medium-sized tree. It is also known as the Swamp Maple or Soft Maple because it can be found growing in swamps, on poor dry soils. Red Maples can live for 100 to 200 years, occasionally longer amd grow up to 90 feet tall. The leaves of the Red Maple are the easiest way to distinguish it from other maple trees. The sap of the Red Maple can be used to produce maple syrup or sugar, but it is less sweet than that of the Sugar Maple. Rhode Island celebrates Arbor day the last Friday in April.
