Tennessee State Tree
Yellow Poplar
‘Magnoliaceae Liriodendron tulipifera’

The leaves of the Yellow poplar are 4 lobed, extend from 4 to 8 inches long and are somewhat shaped like a tulip. The flowers are showy, but high up in the tree. These beautiful blooms last from April to June and are about 2 1/2 inches long and have yellowish – green petals and an orange corolla. When mature, this is one of the favorite trees for the sapsucker. The Yellow Poplar is the state tree for Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana. Tennessee celebrates Arbor day the first Friday in March.
