The Western Hemlock is a large evergreen conifer that reaches 200 feet tall and 4 feet in diameter. It is the largest Hemlock Species. The normal lifespan is from about 80 to 100 years, but it can live well over 500 years! The Pine Cones are small, woody and egg-shaped, about 1 inch long with numerous thin, imbricate scales. It has light, fairly hard wood. Its lumber is used in general construction for flooring, interior finishing, plywood, etc,. Washington celebrates Arbor day the second Wednesday in April.
